What is a Rhytidectomy?

Facelifts, also known as rhytidectomy surgery, is a type of aesthetic surgery performed to improve the patient’s facial appearance through the removal of excess skin and fat. The remaining tissues are then lifted to an elevated position on the face in order to counteract gravity, and contoured to result in a younger, rejuvenated-looking appearance.

What kinds of patients typically get a nose job?

In order to assess the needs of the patient, a patient’s medical history would need to be examined, as well as an explanation from the patient regarding the issue or problem. Common patients that we see include those with abnormal nasal bumps caused by distorted nasal processes of the bone, scarring or deformities caused by blunt trauma, birth defects that have affected the bone, cartilage, or skin, unsymmetrical or misshaped portions, and even those that have skin cancer. There are many reasons why people have come in for rhinoplasty, but there are often easy and simple solutions, which we explain to all of our patients prior to undertaking the procedure.

Rhinoplasty – What does the surgery entail?

This process begins with several pre-operational procedures, which involve patient consultation, examinations of the exterior and interior nose including nasal cavity, and planning regarding surgery and recovery. Most surgeries of this type involve access and alteration of the bones and cartilage that support the nose so that it can be molded and re-shaped. Ethnicity, age and gender all factor into the delicate – complex art of rhinoplasty surgery and requires experience, skill and a thorough understanding of the facial/nasal anatomy in order to achieve results that are right for each individual.
